First and foremost, turtle projects aim to help conserve the endangered species by removing immediate threats such as poachers. Sea turtle conservation volunteer projects can take many forms, and have several varying tasks. Five of the seven species are unfortunately endangered, which makes Indonesia, and especially Bali, the ideal location to volunteer for a sea turtle rescue organization or at a sea turtle sanctuary. These species include the green turtle, hawksbill, olive ridley, leatherback,loggerhead and flatback. There are seven species of sea turtles in the world, six of which can be found in Indonesia.
